A little series celebrating the unique spots where one can enjoy the summer dolce vita and good wine in equal measure - because you can’t spell vacation without wine (or is it just me?)
I have the incredible luck that my wines are featured on fine lists all across the world - I often see them inhabiting such marvellous, quaint places and rubbing elbows with bottles by colleagues I admire, that I get a lot of wanderlust. Alas, with vineyards that need our full focus most of the time (and two very alive kids), my range is quite limited, lol. But I wanted to share (at least a few of) these dreamy destinations with you guys.
The list is in no way exhaustive, so feel free to suggest your own hot discoveries!

Volta Wine Bar in Limassol, Cyprus
The kind of happy place that has it all, from wine bar and shop to forward-thinking restaurant. Born 4 years ago with the ambition of changing local wine culture by making people discover wine in a simple, understandable way, they also run chef pop ups & all kinds of events that make Volta buzzing - not just during the holidays but all year round, in their own space and beyond.
Since Filippos & Phoebe, the passionate couple behind Volta, are also Nestarec importers, I’m happy to see that our wines are part of their adventure – but that should only be your, like, 4th or 5th glass (or bottle .) of choice, after tasting through all the Cypriot wines in their selection... because what’s the point of travel if not immersing yourself in the local (viti)culture, right?

Amic's Ibiza
Some stories begin with a plan; Amics began with a dream. Hugo, from Portugal, and Laurena, from Belgium, both felt drawn to the magic of Ibiza — an island full of light, energy, and a special way of bringing people together.
“We came to Ibiza to follow our dreams, and we dreamed of creating a place of our own. A place that felt like home. A place where food, wine, music, laughter, and friendship could come together around the same table,” Laurena recalls how their cute tapas/bistro/wine bar near the island’s Marina was born.
“Amics” means friends — a fitting name for a place where old friends meet and new friendships begin, where a long lunch turns into an evening of wine, and where strangers can sit down together and leave as besties…
Inspired by the incredible local produce, Hugo & Laurena work with fresh ingredients from the market, letting them speak for themselves.
Their love for natural wine is at the heart of Amics, too: wines with character, made with care and a sense of place — wines that are meant to be shared, discovered, and enjoyed without taking themselves too seriously. (I guess the Nestarec wines fit right in there .))

Marée Haute, Île d'Oléron, France
A “cave à vins vivants” whose selection is built first and foremost on the hundreds of encounters, tastings, and winemaker visits the duo racks up each year.
The selection, based on “flavour, vivacity, fair price,” ranges from the old guard of natural wine to young winemakers (with my 40th birthday approaching, I wonder where Nestarec sits on that scale 😅), and includes rare bottles as well as wines from friends — all available on-site, to-go, or via their e-shop.
Add some famous local oysters, smoked fish, organic vegetables, and other seasonal produce, and you get the perfect spot to spend a full evening — not just in summer, but all year long.

Uvepositivo, A Coruña, Spain
This spot is not as much a place as person & vibe – Uvepositivo is the brainchild of sommeliere Sonia Molero.
Based in the beautifully wild Galicia, Sonia’s main gig is building and consulting wine programs and events, in her partner wineshop Hostelería Seleccion and beyond. And, as an extra treat in the summer months, she’ll also float your (natural wine) boat .)
From June to August, Sonia & her crew take small groups aboard a little yacht departing from A Coruña – “Sunset, sea, wines and food for beautiful people in our Atlantic summer”, as she puts it.
The lineup features local Gallego wines – rightly so! – but I’m told that our Dopamine or Postmoderna compliment the ocean breeze just fine, too .)
